Master Substack without the growing pains.

While other authors compete for visibility on platforms that take 70% of their revenue, early adopters on Substack are building subscriber lists in the thousands, keeping 90% of what they earn, and owning every reader relationship. This is the YouTube wave for writers, and it's happening right now.

Substack for Authors is a course designed for both fiction and nonfiction authors, and it was created by an author who's been in the Substack trenches for years. For a one-time payment (no subscriptions), you get lifetime access, and it comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

...a message from your teacher.

THE PROBLEM YOU'RE FACING

You've spent years building your author platform on someone else's property. Amazon controls your pricing. Facebook's algorithm hides your posts. Your email provider charges you more as you grow. And you're tired of:

  • Sharing 30-70% of your revenue with retailers
  • Begging social media algorithms to show your content to YOUR readers
  • Paying monthly fees that eat your profits
  • Building on platforms that can change the rules overnight
  • Feeling like a product, not a publisher

THE SOLUTION: OWN YOUR READERSHIP

Substack gives you:

  • DIRECT READER RELATIONSHIPS — No middleman between you and your audience
  • ZERO PLATFORM FEES UNTIL YOU EARN — Then Substack takes 10% plus standard payment processing (~3-6%)
  • BUILT-IN PAYMENTS— Readers subscribe with one click
  • EMAIL + WEB + APP — Your readers get your stories however they want
  • COMPLETE CONTROL — Your pricing, your schedule, your rules

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

CORE MODULE: Start Here

Get your head straight about what Substack is and why it works for authors when other platforms don't.

Part 1: Why Substack (Modules 1-2)

  • Understand what makes Substack different from every other platform you've tried
  • Decide if Substack fits your writing life (it's not for everyone)
  • Reset expectations about what "building a platform" actually means

Part 2: Migration and Setup (Modules 3-4)

  • Set up your publication the RIGHT way (ignore Substack's suggested order)
  • Configure settings that convert casual readers into paying subscribers
  • Migrate your existing audience without losing momentum

Part 3: Power Tools and Growth Strategy (Modules 5-6)

  • Master Notes (Substack's built-in social network)
  • Use video, livestreaming, chat, and podcasts (only if they fit your style)
  • Build genuine reader relationships that grow organically

Part 3B: AI Indexing: Get Found by the New Search (Modules 7-8)

  • Understand how AI-powered search has changed discovery
  • Audit your digital footprint (the honest assessment)
  • Learn from the five posts I personally published and how I structured them

Part 4: The Reader Creation and Retention Engine (Modules 9-11)

  • Build the Seed Planting Loop that turns readers into evangelists
  • Create a sustainable weekly framework that doesn't burn you out
  • Decide when (and if) to turn on paid subscriptions
  • Scale beyond subscriptions when you're ready

WHY THIS COURSE IS DIFFERENT

Built by an author who actually uses Substack daily. Not theory. Not guesswork. Real implementation from someone running a successful fiction publication at LifeOfFiction.com.

Experience-first, not framework-first. You'll learn what actually works from 30+ years of indie publishing, not what should work on paper.

Current and accurate. No outdated screenshots. No irrelevant UI instructions. This reflects Substack as it exists in 2026.

Honest about limitations. I'll tell you when Substack ISN'T the answer. This isn't a "Substack solves everything" pitch.

WHO THIS IS FOR

✓ Fiction authors ready to own their audience

✓ Non-fiction writers building a membership community

✓ Authors tired of platform dependency

✓ Writers who want a predictable relationship with readers

✓ Creators ready to treat publishing like a business

What people are saying about Jaime Buckley

“He drew an amazing picture of a turtle, with an actual house on its back — and I thought it was clever, and we reached out. He has done the illustration for [my mom’s] book called "Vacuuming in the Nude".

Mike Rowe, TV Star of Dirty Jobs

"Jaime Buckley is a unique and quirky breed of writer. What’s makes this man so likable and why we adore him is that within minutes, you quickly realize his business isn’t products or information–it’s people."

Lynne Knowlton, lynneknowlton.com

"Jaime’s commitment to teaching kids how to be better people is inspiring. I’m not sure I’ve met anyone like him and there’s probably a reason for that.

So, get to know him – you won’t regret it."

Matt Langdon, The Hero Roundtable

"Jaime is an amazingly talented storyteller, artist, and illustrator.

The first time I saw his work I was blown away — and he’s only gotten better since!

Graphic novel fans, check out Wanted Hero."

Barry Eisler, New York Times & International Best Selling Author

THE REAL QUESTION

How much is it worth to own the relationship with your readers?

To keep 84-87% instead of 30%?

To build a platform no one can take away from you?

This course was created by Jaime Buckley, indie author since 1993 and creator of LifeOfFiction.com.

10X your game

I have reviewed hundreds of courses over the years, and I don't think I've ever seen one as in-depth and genuinely helpful as Jaime's Substack for Authors. If you're a writer looking to get into Substack, or you're already using it and want to 10X your game, I highly recommend it.

Easily worth the money as it will save you tens of hours of work.

I'm new to Substack and learning what it could do was a huge undertaking and just as I started I found this course. Jamie does a fantastic job of breaking everything down in a simple clear logical way as well as providing you with worksheets and homework and things to do to get it up and running. Easily worth the money as it will save you tens of hours of work. Great job!

Superb Introduction to Substack

I had heard about Substack for years, but didn't know what to do with all the people begging me for money for two paragraphs of content. SO WEIRD. But I've been sending daily emails for over six years ... without a place for those articles online. (I tried blogging, but didn't set it up right somehow, so it was never indexed ... so devastating.) The idea of having a home for that content: amazing.

So helpful for a completely beginner like me.

And then the course kept getting better. AI librarian? YES. How to support a community? Yes, please! A bit about monetization? We can do that, too. Ready for multiple sections? Yup, probably.

I have worked through scores of courses and programs and workshops over the last decades, and this is in my top three for practical help.

Thank you, Jaime Buckley!
